INDIA: December 23 is celebrated as Kisan Diwas or National Farmers Day to recognise the efforts and contributions of farmers to the nation. They are the backbone of a country and, for its people, play a very important role in the GDP( Gross Domestic Production).
This day marks the birth anniversary of our fifth Prime Minister, Chaudhary Charan Singh. In his memory, this day is cherished as Kisan Diwas. The former PM of India, Singh, being raised in a farmer’s family, uplifted the problems faced by countrymen.
He demolished the Zamindari (Landlord) system and wrote many revolutionary books like “Abolition of Zamindari”, “Joint Farming X-rayed”, “India’s Poverty and its Solution”, and “Pleasant Proprietorship.” In the early past, half the income of the farmers was taken by the Zamindars.
Thus many farmers suffered debt and loss, resulting in taking away their own lives. This orthodox practice was put to an end by Chaudhary Charan Singh.
