INDIA: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju hailed the Apex court’s decision over permitting an aspirant of civil judge recruitment in Uttarakhand, who has a writer’s cramp.
A writer’s cramp is a rare condition caused by task-specific movement abnormalities that impairs a person’s ability to write. As a result, a bench chaired by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud issued an interim ruling allowing scribes for candidates with disabilities.
Dhananjay Kumar, an aspirant, petitioned the Supreme Court requesting a scribe from the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) after his request for the same was rejected on April 20, just days before the planned exam.
As part of the request, he included a medical certificate from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences dated September 25, 2017. Meanwhile, the dedication came in favour of the appealing candidate.
Rijiju took to his Twitter and applauded the quick response to the appeal and wrote, “This is such a heart-warming action by Hon’ble Chief Justice Dr D Y Chandrachud. A great relief to a divyang (person with a disability) candidate who sought a scribe for the Judicial Service exam in Uttarakhand.”
He also shared an image of a tweet from the candidate’s lawyer, who had sought the Supreme Court. He said, “Timely justice to a deserving person is very satisfying.”
The bench, headed by CJI Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha, stated, “We issue an ad interim order to the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, which is in charge of administering the examination, making sure that the petitioner is provided with a scribe for the upcoming examination.”
This dedication brings hope and satisfaction to many aspiring candidates who fail to chase their dream due to such inconvenience.
