INDIA: Kangana Ranaut, the acclaimed Bollywood actress, has recently made her foray into film production with the offbeat movie ‘Tiku Weds Sheru’. The film, which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and newcomer Avneet Kaur, premiered directly on an OTT platform.
However, since the release of the movie’s posters, it has garnered attention and generated buzz due to the unconventional age difference between the lead actors. Despite the negative reviews, Kangana Ranaut has dismissed them as part of a smear campaign orchestrated by the so-called “movie mafia.”
Taking to her Instagram handle, the outspoken actress addressed the issue, stating, “The movie mafia is doing everything to harm my film, with fake reviews and smear campaigns starting even before its release. Anyway, it’s streaming now, so please watch it for yourself or ask your friends and people you know about their opinions if they have seen it. Don’t be swayed by paid fake trends or reviews.”
In a subsequent story, she clarified her stance on the age difference, saying, “I was 16 when I started, and it’s better to start young if you are looking for a career in films. The problem arises when you are merely a decorative presence on screen, exploited solely for your youth, with no substantial lines, roles, or opportunities… Whatever the mafia’s PR is trying to achieve with the age controversy, please understand that it’s not working… How about focusing on your own films and giving TWS [Tiku Weds Sheru] another watch?”
Furthermore, Kangana Ranaut revealed that initially, she and the late Irrfan Khan were supposed to star in the film, and their age gap was even greater than 20 years. Similarly, the movie is now being made with new replacements, Nawaz and Avneet, whose age gap also exceeds 20 years.
The film portrays Nawaz as an aspiring lead actor who finds himself relegated to supporting roles. He marries Avneet, who is significantly younger than him. However, the story takes a dramatic turn when Nawaz discovers that Avneet is pregnant with someone else’s child. Despite the twist, the magnanimous Nawaz accepts the child and its mother, hoping to live a happy life.
However, despite the various plot twists, the movie fails to live up to expectations, falling short of delivering the promised romantic comedy genre. Instead, the tragic storyline takes an unexpected turn, resulting in mixed reviews from netizens.
