UNITED STATES: The Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Deep, will donate the settlement money which he won from his ex-wife Amber Heard, as per reports.
Depp and Heard’s personal life dispute was making headlines since its inception. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor won the defamation suit against his ex-wife in 2022.
According to reports, in June of last year, the jury awarded Johnny Depp $10 million in compensatory damages, $5 million in fines, and $2 million in compensatory damages to Heard. However, both came to an agreement in December, and Heard agreed to give the Depp $1 million in compensation.
Reportedly, Johnny won a $1 million (approximately Rs 8.23 crores) settlement from his former wife. If reports are to be believed, the actor has made up his mind to hand out $200,000 (Rs 1.64 crores) to each of the five charities.
Now, as per reports, Depp has chosen five charities to donate the settlement funds, which include the Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Marlon Brando’s Tetiaroa Society charity, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance. These charities look after sick children to those that provide safe housing for different communities.
Briefing more about the charities, The Make-A-Film helps the children of the actors, writers, directors and producers, especially the people belonging to artistic lines. The organisation makes sure to look after those children who are battling life-threatening or serious illnesses.
Next is the second charity, The Painted Turtle, a group that offers sick kids a free camp experience that can change their lives. The Red Feather collaborates with idigenous communities to create sensible housing alternatives.
Now, the Teitaroa Society works for the island and coastal communities to give them a better future. The last charity belongs to Amazonia Fund Alliance, which helps to bankroll the projects of Brazilian non-profit organisations.
Johnny Deep and Amber Heard married in an intimate wedding ceremony at their Los Angeles home in 2015. However, Amber called off their relationship and sought divorce from Johnny on May 23, 2016, claiming that Depp had physically abused her during their relationship. Not only that, she also claimed that her husband was high on drugs or alcohol.
Both the actors have been in the limelight ever since the turmoil, and Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Amber in March 2019, after which she wrote about being a victim of domestic violence. However, Jonny won the suit and received a hefty amount as compensation.
