INDIA: The speculation around Jofra Archer’s mysterious surgery in Belgium has finally been put to rest by the Mumbai Indians’ coach.
Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher confirmed on Saturday that Jofra Archer travelled to Belgium for “minor surgery”. However, the timing of the surgery and the visit remain to be determined.
Archer, who has been underwhelming in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, played just two of the Mumbai Indians’ seven games, claiming one wicket.
The Barbados-born English pacer’s visit to Belgium for surgery had become a topic of hot debate in the cricket community, with the player himself chiming in on the matter.
In a social media post, Jofra Archer expressed his displeasure at the media for putting out an article without his consent and exploiting a worrying and troubling time for a player.
However, Boucher’s confirmation ends all the rumours and speculation surrounding Archer’s surgery.
The coach also revealed that Archer is available for selection for the Mumbai Indians’ match against the Rajasthan Royals on Saturday night and can change the contest’s dynamics. Boucher said everyone knows what Jofra can do with the ball.
Jofra Archer has performed exceptionally as a bowler for several years. According to Boucher, he adds a unique dimension to the Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack.
“Obviously, some good pace. He can bowl with the new ball, and he’s very good at death as well,” Boucher adds.
Archer’s return to form could prove crucial for the Mumbai Indians, who have struggled in the death overs this season.
The franchise will hope that Archer leaves an impact before it gets too late for them in the season.
While the mystery around the timing of Archer’s surgery may remain, it is clear that the player is focused on getting back to form and helping his team win in the IPL.
