INDIA/JAPAN: Japan’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, arrived in New Delhi on March 20 for the India-Japan Summit, which happens every year. He will meet the Indian Prime Minister later this afternoon. As Japan will be hosting the G7 Summit next month, the encounter is considered an important development in the two nations’ relations. One of the main topics of conversation between the two PMs will be how the G20 and G7 countries can collaborate closely to address critical global concerns.
In light of his upcoming announcement of the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific Plan for Peace” at the Sapru House Lecture hosted by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), PM Kishida is anticipated to continue his predecessor Shinzo Abe’s policy of working closely with India on security and development throughout the Indo-Pacific.
This is a schedule for the visit and the important points to be discussed:
- One of the main goals of this trip will be to stop China from becoming more aggressive in the area and give developing countries more options for growth and safety. PM Kishida is likely to talk to PM Modi about the Indo-Pacific plan and ask for India’s help in putting it into action.
- PM Kishida is anticipated to discuss several upcoming summits, including the existing G20, the forthcoming G7, QUAD, and SCO summits, during the annual summit.
- How the two leaders can agree on their stances on the Ukraine war will be crucial to these discussions because the G-7 and QUAD summit communiqués will have an impact on the G-20 summit, which India will host in September of this year.
- The visit will be centered on “converging priorities on crucial global concerns, including food and health security, energy transitions, and economic stability,” according to the government.
