INDIA. Rajasthan: The Income Tax department carried out raids at Rajasthan minister Rajendra Yadav’s on multiple premises belonging to him and his family members.
The hunting is being carried out in the state capital city, Jaipur and some locations in Uttarakhand. According to federal tax department sources, the raids are being conducted as part of a tax evasion investigation.
Yadav is the Congress MLA from the Kotputli constituency, and all his family members own businesses such as manufacturing bags for fertilisers, grains, and cement.
Apart from this, they are also into the food business such as flour and pulses. As per Yadav, this is their hereditary business which is running from 72-74 years and has no political findings involved.
“It is our ancestral business,” said the minister. He even said, “My father was in the business from 1950-52, I have been doing it before I entered into politics and both of my sons are also engaged in the business. We are into the production line and supply materials to companies. This should not be associated with things like political funding.”
Meanwhile, the minister of state for home released a statement, “The Income Tax department is conducting raids at business premises and residences in Kotputli and Uttarakhand. Reasons are not known.” It seems that the IT department is chasing a lead and have received some information from their sources.
In the meantime, the Congress MLA recorded his statement to local news agencies. He said, “Raids are being conducted at five-six places. We do not mind (officers) searching because we do clean businesses. If the central government feels that something is wrong, then let them do it. I know this much that we are with the truth.”
According to Yadav, the random raids are occurring with the permission of the Central government, “When we asked them (officers), they said that the search has to be done, the (Central) government has sent them,” said the MLA.
