Dehradun, Uttarakhand:  29th International Yoga Festival 2021, a seven-day long event jointly organised by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) and Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) was recently inaugurated by Shri Subodh Uniyal, Minister of Agriculture Uttarakhand, Shri Narendra Giri, President (All India Akhada Council), and Yogpeeth Acharya Balakrishna, Chairman Patanjali.

The festival is organised every year to keep the legacy of Yoga, the ancient science alive and to bring together the practitioners of Yoga at the birthplace of Yoga, Rishikesh, and the Yoga Capital of India. The festival is held every year after the departure of the chilly winters and the coming of long warm days.

Yoga is the holistic science of health and wellness of body, mind, and soul. Yoga science comprises the union of the self with the divine. With various postures and exercises, yoga practitioners enjoy enhanced peace of mind. Not only the body gets fit after the rigorous training you feel joyous in the heart. The practice of yoga is attaining divine connection.

The festival is one of the largest events of its kind where a visitor is enriched with an unparalleled experience by time-tested masters of Traditional Yoga Lineages from India. Yoga lovers and practitioners participate in different sessions of Yoga classes. All authentic lessons and information regarding Yoga are given. Apart from India, the masters of global Yoga schools and styles are also present here to take yoga and meditation classes.

Addressing the session, Subodh Uniyal said, “We are here at the world-famous location Rishikesh also known as Yognagari to celebrate our age-old practice of Yoga. The aim of Yoga is not only to keep us fit but also to end the evil within the human being. Our honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has always spread the message of well-being done by yoga which has increased the popularity of yoga nationally and internationally.”

Yogpeeth Acharya Balakrishna said, “Yoga has played a very vital role in boosting immunity especially during the time of COVID. The regular practice of Yoga has helped in keeping the diseases away from the body. Yoga is also the cure for many diseases that have no solutions in medical science.”

Narendra Giri, said, “The real definition of yoga is to reconcile the soul to the divine. Yoga also leads to samadhi and peace which is very important in one’s life.” Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) Managing Director Dr. Ashish Chauhan informed that all classroom arrangements have been made following the guidelines of the COVID-19 issued by the Government of India and the State Government. Adding further he said that Master Chef Pankaj Bhadoria will be joining the event and will be taking a session on the importance of healthy food. Along with this, a food competition will also be organised during the event
