Indian Women’s Cricket Team Expected to Depart for World Cup Campaign on January 24

INDIA: The Indian women’s cricket team has assembled in Mumbai, on January 15, to isolate for a week ahead of their New Zealand tour. The team is expected to depart on January 24 for New Zealand. As per the reports, on their arrival in New Zealand, players will have to go through another quarantine.

Recently, the Indian players had a reunion for team bonding sessions & the development of leadership skills in youngsters in Dehradun.

The team management wanted to organize a week-long training camp for this squad, but due to rising cases of COVID-19 across the country, they couldn’t arrange any.

India will play five– match ODI series & one T20I against New Zealand, before kicking off the World Cup campaign against their traditional rivals, Pakistan, on March 6.

India was the runner-up of the 2017 women’s world cup edition, which extended huge support to women’s cricket, in India. This world cup will be the ‘swansong’ of the world’s highest run-scorer in women’s ODIs, Mithali Raj. Mithali Raj will lead the 15-member squad with Harmanpreet Kaur named as her deputy.

Favorites like Jemimah Rodrigues, Shikha Pandey & the star of the 2017 tournament Punam Raut were dropped from the World Cup squad, which ensued a controversy.
