INDIA: The Indian Navy is set to host the second edition of its Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Seminar, known as “Swavlamban-2023,” on October 4th and 5th in New Delhi. During this event, 75 prototypes and several promising technologies will be showcased, and live demonstrations will take place.

This seminar is part of the Indian Navy’s commitment to developing at least 75 technologies and products as part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” initiative. These technologies aim to promote the usage of indigenous technology in the Indian Navy.

The “SPRINT Challenges” initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July last year, presented 75 challenges to start-ups and MSMEs to foster indigenous innovation in the defense sector. Out of 1106 proposals received, 116 were declared winners. Over 100 developmental agreements between iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) and the industry have been concluded as a result of this initiative.

The “SPRINT Challenges” are part of a collaborative effort involving organizations like the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), iDEX, the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO), and the Technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC).

These challenges cover a wide range of technologies, including blue-green lasers for underwater applications, autonomous weaponized swarms, underwater swarm drones, artificial intelligence applications, and ultra-endurance small drones for maritime missions.

The development of these technologies is a significant step toward enhancing the capabilities of the Indian Navy and promoting innovation and indigenization in the defense sector.
