A case of fraudulent recruitment into the Naval Police was master minded by Chauhan, who claimed as “Captain Sameer Singh” of the Indian Navy. He offered young candidates’ fake employment as security guards in the Indian Navy.

According to an IN spokesman, a preliminary investigation by Naval Police revealed that the individual used a fake Ministry of Defence letter indicating INS Kunjali, located in Colaba in South Mumbai, as the recruitment and workplace.

According to one of the duped candidates, he operated from Flat No B/204, Second Floor, Ahuja Prasadam Housing Society, located near the Golden Punjab Hotel in Ambernath East. He used this location to exchange money, uniforms, and other paperwork. He took money from unsuspecting applicants for application fees, uniforms, and fake ID cards, promising them jobs as security guards.

A Naval Police team was dispatched to Ambernath on August 2 to conduct a preliminary investigation into the case. It went to Shivaji Nagar Police Station and filed a formal complaint, requesting that the police apprehend the individual as soon as possible and file an FIR against him.

The group of eight duped unemployed youth (name withheld) then lodged a detailed written complaint narrating how the racket began on June 10. The misled youth included 06 from Ambernath and 02 from Nalasopara.

Most of them were working as watchmen in the buildings adjacent to the Ahuja Parasadam Housing Society. They were looking out for better jobs. Claiming to be “Captain Sameer Singh” of the Indian Navy, Chauhan spread the word that he would get them recruited into the Indian Navy.

Chauhan collected over Rs 30,000 from each candidate towards the cost of identity cards, uniforms, etc. He used to call them at different locations, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in South Mumbai. He gave them “appointment letters” after collecting heavy money. He returned the letters on June 25, saying they would have to be deposited with the Navy office.

On July 21, Chauhan collected additional money towards the cost of the Naval uniform from the job aspirants. Most of them paid part of the money by G Pay on his mobile phone number and paid the balance in cash at his residence.

However, when they were sent to Fortis Healthcare, Ambernath, for a “medical test” on July 23, they realized that they had been duped and the job offer was fake. Then they approached the police. Assistant Police Inspector Deshmukh at Ambernath Police is investigating how many more Chauhan has duped such unemployed youth by giving them a false promise of a job.
