Indian Air Force’s Maintenance Command Adopts Ghorad Village in Nagpur as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahostav

INDIA. Mumbai: In alignment with the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahostav’ initiative, HQ Maintenance Command of the Indian Air Force (IAF) has embraced Ghorad village in Kalameshwar Taluka, Nagpur district, as a part of the “Village Adoption Programme” under the aegis of Mission LiFE.

Situated 5km from the sub-district headquarters of Kalameshwar and 28km from Nagpur’s central hub, Ghorad village falls within the purview of the Ghorpad Gram Panchayat, overseen by its sarpanch. The village falls under the Savner Assembly constituency and the Ramtek Parliamentary constituency.

On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, Air Marshal Vibhas Pande, Air Officer-In-Charge, inaugurated a well-equipped library within a refurbished prefabricated portable cabin.

Addressing the villagers, Air Marshal Vibhas Pande underscored the pivotal role of rural development in India’s holistic progress, given that rural areas contribute significantly to the nation’s identity, culture, economic growth, and prosperity.

He conveyed plans for forthcoming lectures on career guidance, hygiene, and sanitation. Furthermore, he unveiled an orchard comprising 100 fruit-bearing trees, intended to augment the village’s green cover and future livelihood prospects.

Mrs. Ruchira Pande, President of the Air Force Wives Welfare Association, distributed school bags and nutrition packets to the village’s school-going children.

Additionally, she contributed water purifiers and sports equipment to promote the “Khelo India” mission. The 77th Independence Day was fervently celebrated at Ghorad village in the presence of villagers, students, and air personnel from the Maintenance Command.

In a separate event, a function hosted by the Headquarters of Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat Area at the Shanmukhananda Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha in Mumbai, felicitated 25 courageous women (Veer Naris) and three living Param Vir Chakra awardees—Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav, Subedar Sanjay Kumar, and Captain Bana Singh.

The event, graced by Lt Gen HS Kahlon, GOC, MG&G Area, also recognized Lt Col Amardeep Singh and Col Vembu Shankar, SC (Retd).
