INDIA: India and the United States have agreed to extend their cooperation in dealing with cybercrimes, enforcing consumer protection, and telemarketing fraud. The US Justice Department has confirmed this on Thursday.
As per the reports, the US and India will ensure faster information exchange and evidence sharing to deal with cybercrimes. The US Justice Department said that the continued cooperation will ensure security and protection from cybercrimes.
This week, the law enforcement officials from the two countries had a meeting in New Delhi. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials, the Consumer Protection Branch, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had a brief discussion to strengthen law enforcement cooperation. Deputy Assistant Attorney General Arun G. Rao of the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Division’s Consumer Protection Branch was also a part of the discussion.
“In their meetings, the parties affirmed their shared commitment to strengthen cooperation in combating cybercrimes, specifically with respect to efforts to investigate and prosecute cyber-enabled financial frauds and global telemarketing frauds, including international robocalls and communications,” the Justice Department said in a statement.
With emerging technology and increasing usage of gadgets, cybercriminals are duping innocent people. Lack of security awareness is a major reason behind increasing cybercrimes. Due to this, people are freely sharing secret information, social media accounts, and other confidential elements with strangers.
The US-India cooperation in fighting cybercrimes will ensure that the cybercriminals are deterred as well as caught.
