INDIA: India will not participate in the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup which will be held in Changwon, South Korea. The decision was made because of South Korea’s mandatory two-week quarantine rules which will meddle with the shooters’ training.

“Our shooters are not going to be participating in the ISSF World Cup in Korea as there is a 14-day forced quarantine. That means they will not be able to train for that period,” said a top official of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

The competition is scheduled for eleven days from April 16 to April 27. ISSF was earmarked as part of the program to help the Indian shooting contingent hone its skills for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. With South Korea and Japan sharing a similar time zone, the event was being considered important to facilitate acclimatization.

Furthermore, the concerned authorities of Korea said that the players will not be exempted from the mandatory quarantine.

Rifle events, meanwhile, will take place in Bhopal from April 14 to 29.

The competition is being held at two venues to limit the number of shooters in each, as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

With the Changwon ISSF World Cup off the radar, the nationals will also see increased participation from top Indian shooters, including the 15 Olympic quota winners.

In the sixth month of the year, ISSF World Cup of Shotgun is scheduled in Lonato del Garda in Italy. Later in the same month, the European championship of 10m, 25m, 50m, 300m will be held in Osijek, Croatia.
