INDIA: Indian bowlers destroyed the batting of the Netherlands and bowled all the players to the pavilion by 47.5 overs following a magnificent batting display by all five of their best hitters. India proceeded to win nine straight World Cup 2023 matches after this, crushing the Netherlands by an astounding 160 runs.
The Netherlands continued to lose wickets quickly while chasing a whopping 411 runs. No other player could score more than fifty runs, save Teja Nidamanuru (54). Max O’Dowd scored thirty runs, Colin Ackermann scored thirty, and Sybrand Engelbrecht scored 45 runs for the Netherlands. Not a single one of the other batters scored more than 20 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja each claimed two wickets for the Indian team. It’s interesting to note that after all these years, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both took one wicket each. Shreyas Iyer, who scored 128 off of 94 balls, was named “Player of the Match.”
In their last group-stage match against the Netherlands, the World Cup hosts, already guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals, hammered the Netherlands 410-4 from 50 overs, with hundreds from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, and brilliant performances from India’s top-order batsmen. India was again off to a blazing start thanks to a rapid half-century from Shubman Gill.
After reaching exactly 100 for the opening stand with captain Rohit Sharma (60, Gill scored 51 off 32 balls and holed out to a deep backward square leg boundary. India had already exceeded the 90-run mark in the first powerplay for the third time in the competition. With two sixes in the first fifteen overs, Rohit had already surpassed AB de Villiers’ previous record of 58 maximums in 2015 to score a record 60 sixes in a calendar year.
At the MA Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Rohit Sharma chose to bat first after winning the toss. Since the Men in Blue haven’t altered their starting lineup, Bengaluru supporters had the opportunity to celebrate their King Kohli’s 50th ODI century but could not.
