India Shines at Asian Games 2023: Gold, Silver, and Bronze Across Various Events

CHINA: After taking home silver in the women’s 3000m steeplechase on Monday, Parul Chaudhary earned gold in the women’s 5000m final. In the race’s last seconds, she passed Ririka Hironaka of Japan with a time of 15:14.75. 

In the meantime, Vithya Ramraj took home the bronze in the women’s 400-meter final. In the men’s 800 metres, Mohammed Afsal took home the silver medal.

In the men’s triple jump final, Praveen Chithravel takes home bronze. Tejaswin Shankar increased India’s medal haul with a silver after finishing second in the men’s decathlon. With a throw of 62.92 metres, Annu Rani won the women’s javelin throw competition.

Narender (+92kg) lost to Kamshybek Kunkabayev of Kazakhstan, who won the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics, 0-5 in the semifinals, earning himself a bronze medal. In the men’s 51-57 kg quarterfinal earlier, Sachin suffered a 1-4 loss to China’s Ping Lyu.

On a challenging surface, the Indian cricket team held off a comeback by Nepal as Yashasvi Jaiswal’s outstanding century (100), Rinku Singh’s late onslaught (37*), and an all-around performance from the bowlers guided the team to a 23-run victory. India advanced to the men’s cricket tournament semi-finals with the victory.

In the men’s kabaddi competition, India also got off to a good start with a 55-18 victory over Bangladesh, and the women’s hockey team defeated Hong Kong China with a clear score of 13-0.

Indians dominated the compound event. Ojas Pravin Deotale and Abhishek Sharma set up an all-Indian final in the men’s compound event of archery, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam also advanced to the women’s final.

In badminton, neither HS Prannoy, PV Sindhu, nor Kidambi Srikanth had to exert much effort to advance past the round of 16. India also qualified for the final in the men’s 4×400-meter relay, and Kumari Chanda and Harmilan Bains secured final positions in the women’s 800-meter race.
