AUSTRALIA: Fifties from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul helped India gain 6 points in the 2022 T20 World Cup as they beat Bangladesh by 5 runs. In this match, after winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bowl first.
Indian Innings
KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma opened the innings for India. Bangladesh was bowling very well as they took the wicket of Rohit in the 4th over.
India scored some boundaries by using the field restrictions and managed to score 37 runs in the power play. Kohli and Rahul needed to build a partnership from here.
In the 8th over, Rahul changed the momentum of the game by scoring 24 runs. In that over, he smashed two boundaries and a six. KL Rahul (50) lost his wicket in the very next over.
India was 86-1 at the end of the 10th over; they scored 56 runs in the last 5 overs. IND completed 102 runs in 12 overs, and a good score was expected from them.
Suryakumar scored a quick-fire 30 before getting bowled out by Shakib. As 15 overs passed, India was 130/3. Virat was still in the crease, and Karthik just joined him because Pandya lost his wicket just after the 15th over.
Kohli was playing exceptionally again, and he made sure that IND posted a good total. IND scored 54 runs in the final five overs, Kohli scored 64*, and Ashiwin’s cameo (13) at the end helped IND score 184 runs.
Bangladesh Innings
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das opened the inning for BAN. Unlike IND, BAN was playing aggressively in the power play, especially Das. BAN scored 30 runs in just 3 overs.
Das scored his half-century in just 21 balls, and BAN scored 60 runs in powerplay without any loss. But just after the 7th over, rain interrupted the game, and BAN was 17 runs ahead of the par score according to the DLS method.
After the game resumed, the new target for the BAN was 151 in 16 overs. Das was run out just after the game started, and that gave IND a breakthrough.
At the end of the 9th over, BAN was 84-1 and needed 67 runs in 42 balls. Shami removed Shanto in the next over, and chances were opening up for IND.
Bangladesh now needed 52 runs in 30 balls. Arshdeep took two wickets in the 12th over and left BAN in trouble. BAN now needed 50 runs in the last 4 overs.
Pandya also took 2 wickets in the 13th over, narrowing Bangladesh’s chances of winning more.
The match was like a see-saw, with BAN hitting sixes and IND taking wickets.
In the end, India did well to stop Bangladesh just 5 runs before the target and India won the match.
