INDIA: India won the 1st Test match against Australia by an innings and 132 runs in only the 3rd day at the VCA Jamtha Stadium, Nagpur.

As predicted earlier by Transcontinental Times the pitch did not turn out to be a 5-day pitch and the result of the match was decided within the 2nd session of the third day itself.

Ravindra Jadeja won the man of the match for his half century and a 8 wicket match haul.

Axar Patel’s (84) fantastic tail-end batting on day 3rd Day and Mohammed Shami’s (37) pinch-hitting helped India post a mammoth 1st innings total of 400 runs.

This gave hosts a huge lead of 223 runs to upset visitors. Australia in the 2nd innings offered almost no resistance and Indian bowlers were right on top.

Ravichandran Ashwin broke the Australian batting lineup and took his 31st five-wicket haul as the visitors were all down for 91 runs.

Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadeja, each took 2 wickets and Axar Patel chipped in with 1 wicket. Steve Smith was the highest scorer from the Aussies with 25* runs in their 2nd innings.

Australia was bowled out in only 32.3 overs. The match could’ve ended an over earlier when Jadeja castled Smith. However, the delivery was called a no-ball and the batsman survived.

Overall, it was a complete domination of India over Australia. India now lead the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series by 1-0. There are now three tests left for the Aussies to make a comeback.

The next test match will be played on 17 February at Arun Jaitley stadium, Delhi.

The remaining two test matches will be played on 1 and 9 March in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat respectively.
