INDIA: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is clearly in command of the three northeastern states of Nagaland, Tripura, and Meghalaya a few hours after the postal ballots were counted and the electronic voting machines began to display results.
The saffron party is making big strides since Prime Minister Narendra Modi started heading the party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to grow roots in the centre in 2014. As a result of which a lot of northeastern states have come under the saffron party’s tutelage.
The increase in BJP supporters in the northeast would also determine the saffron party’s role in driving out the opposition. As of now, more than 17 states are under the NDA’s tutelage, and the numbers are augmenting under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
The politicians in the states of Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura would be from the BJP, as per the results of the high-voltage 2023 elections in these states. These election results would decide the groundwork of the BJP, with more states preparing for assembly elections in 2023.
The strengthening of the BJP’s hold in these three states would play a crucial role in determining the elections in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
In Rajasthan, the party is looking for a comeback in the upcoming assembly elections. With the BJP government, Karnataka will choose a new assembly by mid-2023.
BJP and the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, as the ruling coalition, would make a comeback again. Meghalaya is progressing towards a hung assembly.
Congress has been eradicated from the northeastern map because it had a domineering effect in the northeastern states and was not able to make a solid comeback.
