NETHERLANDS: In a successful event on Sunday, 24 September 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) opened its doors to more than 1200 visitors as part of The Hague’s Just Peace Open Day.
Attendees, including individuals of various ages and nationalities, explored the ICC headquarters, gaining insights into the Court’s operations and the Trust Fund for Victims’ initiatives.
Highlights of the day included interactive sessions, in-depth discussions on ongoing investigations and cases, presentations on the Trust Fund for Victims’ work, job opportunities, internships, and engaging educational activities for children and youth.
The Just Peace Open Day, part of The Hague’s Just Peace Month, is a collaborative effort between The Hague Humanity Hub, the City of The Hague, and other organizations. This annual event allows the public to learn about the roles and objectives of international institutions and non-governmental organizations operating in the city.
The Hague, renowned as the City of Peace and Justice, has been the home of the ICC since 2002, and it hosts over 160 international organizations in the area.
The ICC is the first permanent, treaty-based, international criminal Court established to help end impunity for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community, namely war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and crimes of aggression.
