UNITED STATES: Hollywood’s biggest names are uniting for the long-awaited sequel to I Am Legend (2007). According to Deadline, Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan will appear together in the planned sequel to this sci-fi horror film.
I Am Legend (2007) is based on Richard Matheson’s novel of the same name, published in 1954. The post-apocalyptic horror tale by Richard Matheson paved the way for the classic zombie and vampire cinema. It also popularized the crucial aspect that can be turned into a future where humanity is on the verge of extinction due to an incurable disease, also known as a post-apocalyptic or dystopian future in modern terms. The novel was previously adapted into The Last Man on Earth (1964) and The Omega Man (1971) before I am Legend (2007).
Synopsis:
I Am Legend (2007) follows Will Smith’s character Robert Neville, a scientist and the sole human survivor in a post-apocalyptic New York. In this twisted version of the famed American city, a man-made virus has killed out the majority of humanity. That spread like an incurable disease, and as the final man on the stand and the only scientist left, it’s up to Robert Neville to use his immune blood to alter the virus’s effect.
The film was a major box-office success, with a total collection of $585.4 million against a budget of $150 million. It was also favorably appreciated by critics, with a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 68 percent and an IMDB rating of 7.2/10.
Francis Lawrence directed the film, which is widely known for John Constantine (2005), The Hunger Games film series (2012-2015), and Red Sparrow (2018).
Akiva Goldsman, along with Will Smith, will return for I Am Legend 2
Along with Will Smith, Akiva Goldsman will return for I Am Legend 2. Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman is expected to return for the sequel, as Will Smith’s return announced. Goldsman was in charge of adapting Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel for the first film. He’ll write the script and collaborate with Elizabeth Raposo and Jordan as co-producer. Smith will also produce the sequel with Jon Mone through his Westbrook Studios.
I Am Legend 2 will be Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan’s first major collaboration. It is unknown how the plot will continue, but the long-awaited sequel will enter theatres in late 2022 or early 2023.
