INDIA: The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has issued a ‘high severity’ warning to Apple users in India, alerting them to multiple vulnerabilities in various Apple products.

If exploited, these vulnerabilities could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code, escalate privileges, or bypass security restrictions on affected systems.

According to a statement released by CERT-IN, the vulnerabilities stem from issues related to certificate validation in the Security component, kernel problems, and errors within the Webkit component. Attackers can potentially exploit these vulnerabilities by sending specially crafted requests.

The software versions affected by these vulnerabilities include:

1. Apple macOS Moneterey: Versions prior to 12.7

4. Apple watchOS: Versions prior to 10.0.1

5. Apple iOS: Versions prior to 16.7 and iPadOS versions prior to 16.7

6. Apple iOS: Versions prior to 17.0.1 and iPadOS versions prior to 17.0.1

7. Apple Safari: Versions prior to 16.6.1

To safeguard their devices and data, the government of India strongly recommends that Apple users install the updates provided by the company. Regularly updating Apple devices is fundamental to ensuring cybersecurity and protecting against potential threats.

In a related development, Apple recently rolled out bug fixes for its latest operating system, iOS 17. Despite its highly anticipated release on September 17, some users reported battery drain issues with the new OS.

To address these concerns, Apple swiftly introduced iOS 17.0.1 and iOS 17.0.2 to resolve these bugs and improve the overall user experience.

On a different note, Apple’s latest iPhone 15 series made a remarkable debut in the Indian market, with a reported 100 percent growth compared to the iPhone 14 series on its first day of sales.

The surge in demand for these devices, particularly the ‘made-in-India’ models, reflects the continued popularity of Apple products among Indian consumers.

Notably, this iPhone series also marks a significant milestone as it is the first to support the ISRO-developed NavIC GPS, aligning with India’s growing prominence in the global technology landscape.
