INDIA. Mumbai: As part of the birth centenary celebrations of the Founding Father of Bangladesh late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, High Commissioner of Bangladesh Muhammad Imran, honoured 10 Indian Naval War Veterans across the country acknowledging their contribution to the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
The function was hosted onboard the Bangladesh Navy ship- BNS Somudra Avijan at Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. The ship is on a five-day visit to Eastern Naval Command and is at Visakhapatnam(Andhra Pradesh), as part of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh ( Golden Jubilee of victory in the war against Pakistan in 1971).
During the visit of the Bangladesh High Commissioner, Rear Adm Tarun Sobti, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet of Indian Navy was the Chief Guest for the event. Rear Adm Jyotin Raina, CSO (Ops), and other senior officers of the Eastern Naval Command were present. As part of professional interaction, Naval personnel from BNS Somudra Avijan visited INS Vishwakarma and Air Station INS Dega.
Commodore Vishal Bishnoi, Commanding Officer, INS Dega provided an insight about the Air Station and briefed the Bangladesh Navy personnel about the nuances of maritime air operations during the visit. A static display of aircraft was organized to showcase the naval aviation of the Indian Navy.
At INS Vishwakarma, the Bangladesh Navy team was briefed about the functioning of the Damage Control Training Facility (DCTF) simulator, and later witnessed a demonstration of a simulated Damage Control Exercise of a ship.
Maritime Rescue
In another development, the Indian Navy rescued crew stranded on Indian Flagged vessel MSV Anna Vailankanne Arockia Vennila, which was sinking 250 nautical miles south of Kochi in Kerala.
The Indian Navy deployed ships and aircraft to provide Search and Rescue assistance. Prompt coordination by the Indian Navy’s Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), with other vessels in the area and Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCC) at Chennai and Male (Maldives) ensured expeditious rescue of stranded crew. All crew reported safe and en route to Male onboard MV MCP Salzburg.
