UNITED STATES: Hideo Kojima, a legendary game designer, best known for the Metal Gear series and Death Stranding, has revealed that he had shelved a dark superhero project because it was too similar to The Boys on Amazon Prime Video. The show’s creator wants to collaborate with the renowned developer on a tie-in game now that he has discontinued the original project.
In recent tweets, Kojima also discussed his consideration of Mads Mikkelsen for the scrapped superhero video game. However, it would not have been the first time Kojima teamed up with Mads if the project had happened. The Danish actor known for his role as Hannibal has previously worked with the legendary developer in Death Stranding, released in 2019, where he played the character of Cliff Unger.
Kojima tweeted about his cancelled game project
In a series of tweets, Kojima shared his view on the cancelled project. The tweet read: “THE BOYS,” which I quit after 3 episodes of season 1. I thought I’d watch the rest of the show. Actually, I watched a few episodes that were delivered at the time when I was about to start a project that I had been warming up for a long time.
“I put it on hold because the concept was similar (different settings and tricks). A buddy (male/female) thing with a special detective squad facing off against legendary heroes behind the scenes. I was thinking of Mads as the lead, “he added in the following tweet.
After Hideo Kojima’s tweet went viral, it stimulated the interest of The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke and Homelander actor Anthony Starr. In response to Hideo Kojima’s tweet, Kripke tweeted, “Please come make a #TheBoys game. We can team up and conquer! Huge fan, btw. #TheBoysTV.” As a follow-up to the tweet, Starr added, “Second that notion.”
In Metal Gear and Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima expanded his collection of futuristic motifs
Hideo Kojima is renowned for his innovative approaches to video games, including his magnum opus Metal Gear series, which he described as a stealth espionage thriller. Regarding its oddity, Death Stranding stood out as a phenomenon from the Metal Gear series. However, despite having a profound concept and mind-blowing sci-fi elements, the game failed to capture its audiences.
If we think about The Boys’ video game, the wackier and wilder universe of dark superhero personas perfectly fits Hideo Kojima’s cup of tea. The Boys tie-in game, in the hands of the legendary developer, will guarantee the series’ craziness in a playable manner.
