Spain: The world is full of beaches. In fact, they say – Life is a beach… Every sea coast is a beach, and Spain also is full of some exotic beaches. In this story, we try and locate a few of the best-hidden beaches in the country.

The beaches of Spain are part of the heritage of this beautiful country, just like its flamenco dance, football clubs, monumental buildings, awe-inspiring art, and distinct folklore. Spain has some extremely beautiful and attractive islands, namely Gran Canaria, Majorca, Ibiza, and Cabrera, spread throughout its extensive coastline. The beaches are packed with buzzing beach bars to pretty bays; there are all kinds of beaches to suit everyone on the country’s 4900km of coastline.

Nature has also crafted out a few beach destinations in Spain that are not easy to locate, or reach, and also are not listed on every list of best beaches in Spain.  These hidden beaches are fun to reach and multiply the fun and excitement of enjoying a beach holiday multifold.

After speaking to many of our beach-loving contacts in Spain, The Transcontinental Times has shortlisted a few of the best-hidden beaches and they are:

  • Cala Salada, and Cala Saladeta
  • Platja des Coll Baix, and
  • Playa de Guayedra.

Cala Llentrisca, a natural paradise in Ibiza

Cala Llentrisca, named due to a rock rising next to it, is one of the most isolated and virgin beaches in Ibiza. This little emerald water cove has an amazingly beautiful environment. The 150-meter long beach at the end of the bay of Es Cubells, is most ideal for anchoring, has smooth pebbles, and is surrounded by hills and pine woods.

It is one of the most remote bays of Ibiza, hidden among tree-covered steep rocks which slope into the sea and can only be accessed from a private development area. The beach is a kind of a fishermen’s beach, as the sea has calm waters. You can find a lot of boathouses in which the fishermen park their boats. The beach is a bit difficult to travel to, and only people looking for adventure and seeking a quiet and traditional fishing corner dare to travel to this beach. This is a beach for people who are looking for solitude and peace in the natural surroundings. The only sound one hears at the beach is the sound of the sea.

Cala Salada, and Cala Saladeta – clear turquoise waters in Ibiza

Ibiza is one of the most beautiful natural paradises locations in Spain with ravishing beaches, and a number of them are hidden coves that only a few know.  Cala Salada, a sand and gravel beach, around 100 meters long is one of the most incredible and magical beaches. The beach further leads to Cala Saladeta, another hidden and beautiful beach. These beaches are surrounded by amazing green areas and mountains and have intense turquoise blue waters. These beaches are accessible only if you are ready for a short trek on an easy track. The rows of fishers’ huts on the beaches make the area look rustic and are quite peaceful during weekdays.

Platja des Coll Baix, a pristine strip of sand

One of the most peaceful and romantic beaches nestled into the Northern coastline of Mallorca, Platja des Coll Baix is a pristine strip of sand. The secluded beach of Coll Baix is ideal for nature lovers, has stunning sea views, and is a beautiful hidden beach with turquoise-blue waters. The pebbled, remote rugged bay is located between the bays of Alcúdia and Pollença, it is one of the most fascinating landscapes on the island.

To reach this secluded virgin beach, 200 meters long, near Alcúdia, you have to trek through the woods.

Playa de Guayedra, a beach less travelled

Located at Gran Canaria, Playa de Guayedra, is one of the eight beaches in the municipality of Agaete, and is just 200 meters long. It is a beach less travelled to, is one of the most beautiful protected landscapes with spectacular geology, flora, and fauna. The sunset at the pretty Guayedra beach is stunning.

Playa de Guayedra, situated in the north of the island of Gran Canaria is not easy to get to. Accessible by road from Agaete town, you need to walk a lot and enter through a small trampled path down the slopes of the beach. The area is susceptible to landslides and hence is marked as inaccessible. But, if you take the risk, the beach is very pretty and consists primarily of rocks and has very clear water. If you like dark lava, palm trees and the spectacular views of the coast cliffs, then your efforts to walk down to this most attractive nudist beach will certainly be a treat.
