INDIA: According to media reports, ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ actress Munmun Dutta aka Babita Ji was interrogated for four hours in a police station in Haryana on Monday. The arrest stemmed from a casteist remark made by the actress in a YouTube video last year. Her comments about Dalit society had offended people, and the actress had even apologized after the huge controversy in 2021.
However, an FIR was filed against her in Haryana’s Hissar police station. According to reports, Munmun Dutta was questioned by police for four hours on Monday before being released on bail.
According to the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, she was required to appear before the investigating officer, DSP Vinod Shankar. Munmun Dutta’s anticipatory bail application was also denied on January 28 by Hisar’s special court established under the SC/ST Act.
For the uninitiated, in 2021, the actor made a casteist remark in one of her YouTube videos. Munmun quickly trimmed the video after being chastised on social media. Her controversial remark sparked widespread outrage, prompting Munmun Dutta to issue an apology, claiming she was “genuinely misinformed about the meaning of the word.”
Her apology, issued on Twitter, reads: “This is in reference to a video that I posted yesterday wherein one word used by me has been misinterpreted. It was never said with the intent of insult, intimidate, humiliate or hurt anyone`s feelings.”
