INDIA. Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sanjay Bansode, on his maiden visit to the NCC Directorate Maharashtra in Mumbai, inaugurated the newly constructed “Shivaji Conference Hall” and also felicitated selected cadets for their exceptional performance in various training activities at the NCC Directorate, on Tuesday.
He was received by Major General Yogendra Prasad Khanduri, Additional Director General (ADG), NCC Directorate, Maharashtra and was given a Guard of Honour by the NCC cadets. Khanduri also presented him with a memento.
On the occasion, Brigadier V N Kulkarni, the Deputy Director General, briefed the minister on the conduct of NCC activities by the directorate. The directorate also organised a presentation highlighting the activities carried out in Maharashtra.
Bansode appreciated the standards of training being imparted to the NCC cadets in Maharashtra and emphasised that necessary support for this important activity of nation-building and the impetus it deserves will be given by the Maharashtra Government.
The minister expressed his full cooperation in achieving the goal of winning the PM’s Banner for Maharashtra at the Republic Day Camp 2024 to be held in New Delhi. He also complimented the staff and officers for their spectacular performance at the NCC Directorate Maharashtra.
It may be recalled that at this year’s Republic Day Camp, Maharashtra’s NCC contingent of 111 cadets won the Champions Trophy and the Prime Minister’s Banner. Twenty-two Cadets from Maharashtra walked the Kartavya Path as part of the All India NCC contingent.
In 2022, it also won the competition, thus taking the number of wins in the competition to 19 out of 32 since its inception. Besides, it had been runner-up on 08 occasions.
NCC in Mumbai commenced with the raising of No 7 Circle NCC on October 25, 1949, after the Parliament approved the raising of NCC in 1948. It was later designated as the NCC Directorate, Maharashtra. Now, it comprises 07 Groups and 62 units covering 549 colleges, 941 schools and 20 Universities.
