UNITED STATES: Haas F1 Team has introduced a B-spec car at the United States Grand Prix, signalling a strategic shift towards a revolutionary “Red Bull concept” to propel them forward in the 2024 season. With just 12 points accrued this year and the highest finish in P7, the team recognized that the initial iteration of the VF-23 lacked the competitive edge needed.
The decision was made under the stewardship of team principal Guenther Steiner, opting to forego minor adjustments in favour of a comprehensive overhaul. This eagerly awaited upgrade focuses primarily on aerodynamics, with significant modifications including the floor, engine cover, sidepod inlet, sidepods, quarter panel, and padding gills.
Haas’ departure from the early-season Ferrari model in favour of the Red Bull downwash concept marks a pivotal shift in strategy. Team boss Steiner emphasized, “Creating more downforce and less drag, it just wasn’t there anymore, so we needed to change the concept to what is commonly known as the “Red Bull concept” or the “downwash concept”.”
While the team currently languishes in ninth place in the Constructors’ Championship, Kevin Magnussen remains cautiously optimistic about the immediate impact of the upgrades. He acknowledges, however, that the Austin improvements are equally geared towards refining the 2024 contender.
Teammate Nico Hulkenberg echoes this sentiment, expressing anticipation for the revised car, which aims to rectify performance disparities, enhance consistency, and address tyre wear issues.
Nico hopes the updates will help improve the car’s tyre wear, consistency, and overall performance. As the Haas team gears up for a crucial phase of development, eyes are now fixed on the United States Grand Prix to witness the potential breakthrough that could redefine their trajectory in Formula 1.
