Gunmen Abduct Ten Police Officers in Kogi, Kill Nine Civilians in Katsina

The unidentified gunmen have also been reported to have raided Ruwan Godiya and Kwai communities in Faskari Local Council of Katsina State

AFRICA.Nigeria: About 10 Police Officers of the Nasarawa State Police Command who were returning from election duty in Osun State have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen along Kogi State.

According to the media reports, the officers who were deployed to Osun State for last Saturday’s governorship election were catered away at Obaja, Kogi State. 

A statement confirming the abduction of the officers read that, at about 11:05 a.m., information was received from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Obajana that gunshots were heard along New By-Pass Road, close to Trailer Park, PTI Obajana.

The DPO immediately mobilised patrol teams to the scene, where they met one white 18-seater passenger bus with a registration number: GWA 295 YR, driven by Usman Abdullah with six other occupants.

The seven persons identified themselves as officers from the Nasarawa State Police Command returning from the Osun Governorship election. They narrated that their vehicle developed a mechanical fault, and while trying to fix the vehicle, armed men emerged from the bush and kidnapped 10 officers.

Meanwhile, gunmen have also been reported to have raided Ruwan Godiya and Kwai communities in Faskari Local Council of Katsina State, killing nine civilians and abducting scores of others.  

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen invaded the communities in their large numbers on motorcycles with sophisticated weapons to carry out the attack. 

At the time of the incident, Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Ramhan Nansel, in a response to a text message sent to his mobile phone, acted to be ignorant of the incident, saying, “Please text me, where did the incident happen,” Nansel said.
