UNITED STATES: I Am Groot debuts as the MCU’s lighthearted fun series, featuring just cute Baby Groot and his entertaining antics packaged in a short format that will make you think of the numerous Disney animated shorts.
Kirsten Lepore contributed his creative and directorial vision to the animated series, which stars Vin Diesel as the voice of Baby Groot. The MCU show offers comic escapades that expand into amusing moments encased in exquisite animation. The series consists of five shorts of 4-5 minutes each, which include Groot’s First Steps, The Little Guy, Groot’s Pursuit, Groot Takes a Bath, and Magnum Opus.
A short-animated journey of our beloved Marvel character
Though the series takes place between the timelines of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it does not trigger any key changes or events in the MCU, which has both positive and negative sides.
The photorealistic animation creates a marvellous animated effect; at times, Groot’s visuals appear to be in live-action style. In certain scenarios, the utilisation of light creates a calming aesthetic effect that functions as a relaxing component. On the other hand, when a special character emerges in a cameo role for a split second, the animation quality appears jarring, which is effortlessly avoided.
The element of fun and humour injected with Groot saying only “I am Groot” takes a creative vision, which Kirsten Lepore has mastered. Numerous sequences rely only on Baby Groot’s regular activities serving as the foundation of the comedy, which excels in many instances.
There are also numerous easter eggs and secret references throughout the animated series. Marvel enthusiasts can easily recognise the meanings and implications. Most of the references are to Guardians of the Galaxy, which is both straightforward and anticipated.
I am Groot can be enjoyed by both kids and adults, although the animated shorts are aimed primarily at children. If you like Baby Groot, this series is worth watching, and the greatest part is that all of the episodes are available at once, consuming a total of 20 minutes of watch time. Furthermore, no prior expertise in MCU characteristics is required.
The story of the animated shorts is straightforward, or it may be described as a glimpse of adorable and humorous moments in Baby Groot’s life. The manner his escapades are described in the series is solely for comic effect.
Verdict:
The animated show is to the point and delivers on everything it promised in the trailers and teasers, functioning as a delightful comedy series that is a must-watch with friends and family.
