Golden Globes 2023: RRR’s Song ‘Naatu Naatu’ Bags the Best Original Song Award

The movie was also nominated for Best Picture in a non-English language

UNITED STATES/INDIA: The 80th edition of the much-awaited Golden Globes award ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California. The ‘RRR’ phenomenon refuses to subside. SS Rajamouli’s period epic has bagged the coveted Golden Globe for Best Original Song, for the viral track ‘Naatu Naatu’.

The song won against formidable contenders like Taylor Swift’s hit track ‘Carolina’ from the film ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’, ‘Ciao Papa’ from Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’, Lady Gaga’s ‘Hold My Hand’ from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.

RRR’s entire cast, SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan, and Jr NTR, were present at the award function as their film received two nominations. 

The victory is a proud moment for India as well as the Kollywood film industry. At the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, RRR received a nomination in the Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language category. The award, however, went to the 1985 Argentinian film Argentina.

M.M. Keeravani, the composer of the song, went on stage to receive the award. He dedicated the award to Rajamouli and the two leads, Ram Charan and NTR Jr. Ram Charan’s wife Upasana Kamineni, MM Keeravani’s wife Srivalli, Rajamouli’s son SS Karthikeya, and wife Rama were also present at the event.

The highly successful movie RRR, collected over Rs 1,200 crore globally. At the New York Film Critics Circle awards, SS. Rajamouli was named Best Director. The list of 301 movies eligible for the 95th Academy Awards includes “RRR,” India’s official entry in “The Last Film Show” (also known as “Chhello Show”), the sleeper hit “Kantara,” “The Kashmir Files,” “Gangubai Kathiyawadi,” and “Me Vasantrao,” a Marathi-language biopic on classical singer Vasantrao Deshpande.

The Golden Globes honours the best in cinema, and the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, cast their votes for the following categories. 

Apart from RRR’s grand victory, veteran actress Michelle Yeoh received the best actress award in (musical/comedy) for her dynamic role in the action movie ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’. Actor Steven Spielberg won best director and motion picture for ‘The Fabelmans’.  ‘The Fabelmans’ also won the Best Film (Drama) award. The award for best screenplay was bagged by Martin McDonagh – ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’.
