AUSTRALIA: Riding on a superb knock of Josh Philippe who scored 99* off 61 deliveries, Sydney Sixers defeats Melbourne Stars by 7 wickets. Glenn Maxwell scored a brilliant century but it still wasn’t enough for Melbourne Stars to win this match. In this match after winning the toss, Sydney Sixers decided to bowl first.
Melbourne Stars had the worst of the starts as they lost their openers Marcus Stoinis (3) and Joe Clarke (0) cheaply and Melbourne Stars were 6/2 after 2.1 overs. After the fall of two wickets, Melbourne Stars skipper Glenn Maxwell and Nick Larkin started building a steady partnership.
They both batted cautiously and stitched up a 53 runs stand. Nick Larkin got out after scoring 23 runs off 25 deliveries and after that Hilton Cartwright joined Glenn Maxwell in the middle.
Glenn Maxwell’s maiden BBL century
Melbourne Stars were 59/3 after 8.4 overs. In the last 10 overs, it was all about the “Glenn Maxwell Show”. Glenn Maxwell scored a brilliant century. He scored 103 runs off 57 deliveries which included 12 fours and 3 sixes. Glenn Maxwell single-handedly took Melbourne Stars to a competitive total. This was Glenn Maxwell’s maiden Big Bash century.
Hilton Cartwright got out after scoring 23 runs off 20 deliveries and soon after Cartwright got out, Glenn Maxwell also got out after playing a brilliant inning. Andre Russell Played a quick knock of 12 runs off 8 deliveries to take the Melbourne Stars to 177/5 after 20 overs.
For Sydney Sixers, Steve OKeefe, Ben Dwarshuis, Chris Jordan, Daniel Christian, and Hayden Kerr took 1 wicket each.
Josh Philippe and James Vince were opening the batting for Sydney Sixers. James Vince struck two consecutive fours against Nathan Coulter-Nile in the 4th over but Coulter Nile had the last laugh as he got the wicket of James Vince (9) and after 3.5 overs Sydney Sixers were 30/1.
Josh Philippe’s unbeaten half-century
After the wicket of James Vince, Moises Henriques joined Josh Philippe in the middle. Josh Philippe played a gem of a knock. Josh Philippe scored an unbeaten 99 runs off 61 deliveries which included 11 fours and 2 sixes. Moises Henriques also played a handy knock of 29 runs off 20 deliveries.
Sydney Sixers were 116/3 after 13.1 overs when Jordan Silk came in to support Josh Philippe in the middle. Josh Philippe helped Sydney Sixers chase down the target in 19.4 overs. Josh Philippe ended the match with a slog-sweep over deep mid-wicket.
Sydney Sixers won the match but Josh Philippe missed his well-deserved century by 1 run. Jordan Silk scored an unbeaten 25 runs off 19 deliveries and Sydney Sixers defeated Melbourne Stars by 7 wickets.
For Melbourne Stars, Brody Couch, Adam Zampa, and Nathan Coulter-Nile took 1 wicket each.
