German Organisation Launches Online Platform For Adult Learning In Africa

The initiative to have the online portal came after DVV and its partners in Africa discovered that African adult literacy educators lacked an online platform

MALAWI.Lilongwe: The German Institute for International Cooperation of the Deutscher Volkschochul-Verband (DVV),recently launched an online platform for adult educators in Africa at a ceremony held in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.

The platform called ‘Moja’ which means one in Swahili will be administered in English and Swahili but other African languages will be added later. It will be accessible on www.mojaafrica.net.

David Harrington, the DVV Regional Director for Africa said the platform will address a gap in the African adult education community.

“It will help provide a space for people to share with and from one another the rich tradition and practices of adult education which have evolved in the African context,” said Harrington.

The platform will include articles and news links from adult literacy educators across the continent.

Christoph Jost Director of DVV Global office in Germany said the platform will enhance unity and solidarity among African educators.

And Caeser Kyebakola the organisation’s Country Director for Uganda said MOJA will be a place where adult learning and education will be investigated and analysed to find best practices suitable for Africa.

DVV was established in 1969 to help advance youth and adult education. Apart from Africa it also serves in Asia,Latin America,Middle East and Europe. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development( BMZ), the German Federal Foreign Office,The GIZ and others donors including the European Union(EU).
It represents the interests of over 900 adult learning centres in Germany

It started its operations in Malawi in 2017.
