INDIA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a four-day tour of the United States after receiving a formal invitation from President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The visit, scheduled from June 21 to June 24, 2023, signifies the growing partnership between the two countries, positioning the United States and India as “partners of first resort.”
As part of his itinerary, PM Modi will address a gathering of diaspora leaders from across the country in Washington DC.
The event with the Indian diaspora will focus on the key factors driving India’s remarkable growth story. Taking place from 7 pm to 9 pm (local time) on June 23, the two-hour event will feature a special performance by internationally acclaimed singer Mary Millben, dedicated to the Indian PM and other distinguished guests in attendance.
The United States Indian Community Foundation (USICF) will be hosting the event at the prestigious Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
Dr. Bharat Barai, a prominent community leader and chairman of the Indian American Community Foundation, organized the event at the Ronald Reagan Center, expressing his admiration for the Prime Minister’s popularity among the global Indian diaspora. He further highlighted his status as a widely recognized world leader.
Dr. Barai also mentioned PM Modi’s gracious gesture of delaying his departure from Washington DC to accommodate the diaspora meeting. In anticipation of the Indian PM’s visit, the Indian-American diaspora in Washington held a Unity march on Sunday, extending a warm welcome to the Prime Minister.
Numerous videos and pictures circulated, showcasing vibrant marches in 20 major cities across the United States, with enthusiastic participants chanting slogans such as ‘Modi Modi,’ ‘Vande Mataram,’ and ‘Vande America.’ The event exuded a spirit of celebration, with many participants joyfully dancing to the tune of ‘Har Har Modi.’
