INDIA. Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. In February 2016, Rohit Ravirao Dalal (aka, Shantanu), a 25-year-old with a first-class degree in engineering, aspired to get the best job with a good company.
His father was a banker which had a transferrable job in the interiors of Maharashtra. Hence Rohit and his younger brother had to change schools many times up to secondary form.
In 2011, Rohit appeared for the competitive All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). He qualified with admission to the college of his choice, completed his studies, and graduated. He was the only engineer from his family.
From 2016 to 2017, Rohit had appeared for more than 7 interviews, searching for a suitable job opening.
Failure before success. He was unable to find a job. Rohit nearly gave up. He was competent about his subject, but he lacked knowledge about job portals. Once he realized this, he focused on acquiring job-seeking skills and more relevant certifications.
Rohit told Transcontinental Times, “Many freshers struggle because of lack of awareness about job openings.” Rohit was determined to change this scenario. He said, “Instead of me going after the companies, I would prefer the companies to start following me.” And that is exactly what happened.
Job search skills are key to landing a job. Rohit found employment the moment he completed his skill development certificate, coupled with his BE (Electronics and Communications) degree. He was appointed by Bengaluru based MNC in Navi Mumbai. According to him, many graduates resist leaving their comfort zones in search of employment opportunities. Consequently, their chances of getting a job decrease.
He began a WhatsApp group to help others find suitable jobs with a broad outlook to serve his friends, acquaintances, and people from other states too. He offered his expertise and helped others find jobs free of charge. He supported candidates who lacked the acumen of drafting their own resumes and offered guidance on interview techniques to apply for jobs around the country.
Emerging as a popular personality. Rohit has become a popular figure in India through his creation of The Rohit Dalal Twitter handle @iamShantanu_D which provides the prospective candidates a piece of ready information about a job opening in the State of Maharashtra. On request from other state candidates, he extended his twitter handle to them, with regional vacancies.
Future ambition. His ambition is to see that every aspiring candidate finds a job, since the openings he shares are genuine and verified. From 2019, companies directly seek his support to find qualified candidates. In July 2020 his new website is offering information about employment opportunities.
