FRANCE: In the French city of Lyon, police launched a manhunt after a Jewish woman was stabbed and injured on Saturday, while a swastika was discovered graffitied at her residence, the city’s mayor and police said.
“Such an act of violence is unthinkable. I offer all my support to the victim and her relatives,” stated Gregory Doucet, Lyon Mayor, on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
A spokesperson for the national police provided no additional information about the suspect and was unable to confirm whether the attack was being investigated as an anti-Semitic hate crime.
Police in various countries globally have reported a rise in incidents involving anti-Semitic and Islamophobic sentiments following the attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7.
