INDIA. Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against four individuals, including the parents of a minor boy, for allegedly obtaining two passports for him in an unsuccessful attempt to immigrate him to a European country.
Simal Singh, residing at Bhatnura Lubana, Jalandhar, Punjab, his wife Manjit Kaur, Kirpal Singh Notay, residing at Tilak Nagar, New Delhi, his wife Suresh Kumari Notay, and other unidentified individuals have been named in FIR No RC 2312023S0001 dated June 28. The accused have been charged under sections 120 B, 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code and section 12 of the Passports Act 1967.
The couple, Simal Singh and his wife Manjit Kaur, obtained passport No U 2486935 on January 20, 2020 (valid till November 09) from the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Jalandhar for their minor son, Gurusharandeep Singh.
Later, the couple conspired with Kirpal Singh Notay and his wife Suresh Kumari Notay to obtain another passport from the RPO in New Delhi. On January 13, 2022, Kirpal Singh submitted an application for a passport in the name of his son, “Sarvjit Singh,” to the RPO in New Delhi. However, the photo of Gurusharandeep Singh was pasted on the application form, while Gurusharandeep Singh signed as “Sajvjit Singh” on the form.
Kirpal Singh and Suresh Kumari submitted an affidavit, a fake birth certificate dated January 28, 2010, obtained from the Faridabad Municipal Corporation, and photocopies of their own passports in support of the application. Subsequently, Passport No V 5517012 was issued in the name of “Sarvjit Singh” by the RPO in New Delhi.
An application for a visa was then submitted to the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi, using passport No V 5517012 on behalf of Gurusharandeep Singh. However, the application was rejected on March 22, 2022. Simal Singh reapplied, but the visa application was again rejected on May 11, 2022.
Following that, the visa application of Gurusharandeep Singh was submitted to the Embassy of France, using passport U 2486935. However, the application was rejected on December 2, 2022, as his biometrics matched with the biometrics obtained by the Embassy of Spain when the attempt was made to seek a visa using passport No V 5517012.
Based on a tip-off and information, the CBI conducted raids in Jalandhar and New Delhi and registered the offense against the accused.
