Five Indian Cricketers Kept In Isolation For “Protocol Breach”

AUSTRALIA: Five Indian cricketers have been put in isolation for breaking the protocols set by Cricket Australia. As per the strict Cricket Australia protocols, the players are not allowed to dine outside their hotel. This decision was taken to keep the players safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the players are allowed to leave their hotel and sit outside.

Meanwhile, the Australian and Indian cricket boards are investigating a potential biosecure breach. In a video posted on social media by a cricket fan, cricketers Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Navdeep Saini, and Prithvi Shaw were seeing having a meal inside a Melbourne restaurant. The fan claimed to have been seated close to the players talked with them. He also talked about getting a hug from Pant after he paid their bills. However, the fan later retracted the claim of a hug after it raised serious questions on a breach of protocols.

In a statement, Cricket Australia said, “The BCCI and CA are investigating the matter and seeking to determine whether the outing constitutes a breach of biosecurity protocols.”

In the interim, on the advice of the Australian and Indian medical teams, players have been placed in isolation as a precaution. “This will include separating the group of players from the broader Indian and Australian squads when traveling and at the training venue”, Cricket Australia further added.

The four-Test series between India and Australia is leveled at 1-1. After playing two test matches in Melbourne, the players are all set to travel to Sydney for the third test match which starts on Thursday.
