FINLAND: Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin underwent a drug test on Monday. She received a negative result, dispelling any doubts that may have arisen when party video footage that showed her having a good time with friends was made public.
“Marin’s urine sample was tested for the presence of numerous narcotics such as cocaine, amphetamines, cannabis, and opioids after the house party video that went viral on social media prompted doubts about whether illegal substances were involved,” Iida Vallin, a special advisor to the prime minister, said.
Sanna Marin denies taking any drugs
The office of Prime Minister Sanna Marin issued a statement saying that a drug test conducted on her on August 19, 2022, had not found any evidence of drug use.
Marin previously stated that she was out with friends and that the films were shot on private property to clear up any confusion regarding the leaked video footage.
She agreed to drinking beer but denied using drugs and claimed not to have seen any of the attendees using narcotics.
Sanna Marin affirmed that she had never used drugs, not even when she was younger, and expressed her disappointment that videos of her dancing at private events had been shared online when they were intended for close friends exclusively.
Some media outlets said one of the videos contained a slang term for cocaine, although other outlets claimed it was more likely to be a reference to alcohol.
The prime minister claimed no proof that anyone had ingested any illegal substances, and she had only sipped alcohol.
Riikka Purra, the head of the opposition Finns Party, demanded that Marin submit it to a voluntary drug test. Mikko Karna of the agrarian Center Party, a coalition partner of Marin’s Social Democrats, echoed his appeal.
Notably, Sanna Marin has previously been under fire for hosting parties at her official apartment. She was elected in 2019 at the age of 34.
