AFGHANISTAN: A female journalist from Afghanistan was killed by unidentified gunmen in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on Thursday. Malala Maiwand worked for a private TV station in Afghanistan. Maiwand and his driver both were killed in this unfortunate incident. According to the statement given by an Afghan official, the incident took place in the capital of Jalalabad. Meanwhile, no group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a statement, the official said, “Malala Maiwand who worked for a private radio-TV station was gunned down by unidentified armed men in Jalalabad city in the morning rush hour today and culprits made their escape.”
He further added that necessary measures were being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Maiwand is the second journalist to be killed in Afghanistan since mid-November and the seventh journalist to be killed this year in the country. On November 12, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) journalist Elyas Dayee was killed in a magnetic bomb explosion in Lashkargah city of Helmand province on Thursday morning. Two more Afghan journalists have been killed in the last two months in separate bombings. Reporters in Afghanistan are in a dangerous and terrifying situation now. According to the international press freedom group, Reporters Without Borders, Afghanistan is considered one of the world’s deadliest countries for journalists.
