UNITED KINGDOM: Felipe Massa’s legal challenge to the outcome of the 2008 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship has taken a significant step forward, with new developments emerging from his legal team. Last month, Massa initiated a legal battle in the UK High Courts, contesting his runner-up position to Lewis Hamilton in the 2008 season.
At the centre of Felipe Massa’s case is the infamous ‘Crashgate’ incident during the Singapore Grand Prix. This controversy involved the Renault F1 team manipulating the race result at Marina Bay, a pivotal event in Massa’s pursuit of justice.
The legal team, led by Bernardo Viana, has been actively engaged in the proceedings. They’ve issued preservation orders to involved parties, including Ferrari, Alpine (formerly Renault), ING, former team principal Flavio Briatore, as well as key figures from Renault at the time, Pat Symonds and Steve Nielsen.
In a recent update, Viana stated that the FIA and FOM have requested a delay in the proceedings to conduct an internal investigation. They’ve extended the deadline from October 12th to November 15th. Viana expressed confidence that the new administration’s inquiry will align with Massa’s pursuit of justice.
Felipe Massa, who has not been present in the F1 paddock since initiating the legal challenge, spoke to local media about the complexity of the situation. He emphasized that his fight for justice remains resolute and underscored the importance of rectifying the perceived injustice.
