Ex-Vidarbha Ranji Trophy Skipper Praveen Hinganikar Gets Injured in a Tragic Car Accident

His wife Suvarna Hinganikar lost her life on the spot while Hinganikar sustained grievous injuries

INDIA: Former Vidarbha Ranji Trophy skipper Praveen Hinganikar and his wife Suvarna were involved in a tragic accident on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. The accident occurred on Samruddhi Mahamarg near Mehkar when the couple was returning to Nagpur from Pune in their Hyundai Creta car. Unfortunately, Suvarna Hinganikar lost her life on the spot, while Praveen Hinganikar sustained grievous injuries.

The accident happened when the couple’s car hit a parked Eicher truck near Kalyana in Buldana’s Mehkar taluka. Praveen had reportedly dozed off at the steering, leading to the collision. The crash’s impact was severe, and the car was crumpled like a piece of paper. It is a tragic incident highlighting the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to be vigilant. Regular breaks and avoiding driving while feeling fatigued or drowsy can go a long way in preventing such accidents.

Praveen Hinganikar, who served as Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) curator and is currently the chief curator of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), suffered a fracture in his left hand and was rushed to a private hospital in Mehkar. The police reached the spot after receiving the information and performed the panchnama.

Between 2008 and 2018, Hinganikar served as the chief curator at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) in Nagpur. He developed the pitch and outfield of the Jamtha stadium. During his playing career, Hinganikar was recognised as a good all-arounder. He started coaching after retiring from cricket. Before accepting the position of curator, he served as the Vidarbha Ranji team’s coach for some seasons. Under the supervision of Hinganikar, the pitches and outfields at ZACS, Chattogram, and Cox Bazar stadium were developed as per international standards.
