CHINA: As per the EU foreign policy chief, Taiwan Strait would be patrolled by the European navies, which comes after constant highlights of the necessity of Taiwan to Europe. High representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and security policy, Josep Borrell, mentioned in an opinion piece in the Journal Du Dimanche that Taiwan “concerns us economically, commercially and technologically” adding, “That’s why I call on European navies to patrol the Taiwan Strait to show Europe’s commitment to freedom of navigation in this absolutely crucial area.”

Prior to this, a three-day military exercise around Taiwan was ignited by China in response to a meeting between the President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen and Kevin McCarthy, the US House Speaker that focused on targeted strikes and island blockades.

Borrell stated in a speech inaugurating a debate on China on Tuesday at the European Parliament, “Taiwan is clearly part of our geostrategic perimeter to guarantee peace.”

“It is not only for a moral reason that an action against Taiwan must necessarily be rejected. It is also because it would be, in economic terms, severe for us because Taiwan has a strategic role in the production of the most advanced semiconductors,” he added.

Taiwan is included in China’s frontiers, and the country has pledged to take control of the island in the not-too-distant future. However, the Communist Party government of mainland China has never had strength over Taiwan.

Beijing claims to have complained to South Korea’s representative about the president of that country’s statements that were “erroneous” regarding Taiwan. Sun Weidong, China’s vice-foreign minister, stated, “It is a well-known fact that the Korean Peninsula issue and the Taiwan issue are completely different in nature and in latitude and longitude, and are not comparable at all.”

Giammattei will be in Taiwan from Monday until Thursday, and during his time there, he has arrangements to speak at the Taiwanese Congress and tour a tech business in Taichung, which is south of Taipei. According to the office of the president of Taiwan, he is expected to attend an occasion promoting Guatemalan coffee.
