Ethics Panel Meeting on ‘Cash-for-Query’ Allegations Involving TMC MP Mahua Moitra Delayed

INDIA: The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee is looking into Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra’s “cash-for-query” scandal. She has taken a jab at the committee after its meeting to approve a draft report on her “unethical conduct” was postponed. November 9 was chosen as the new date for the “consideration and adoption” of the ethics panel’s draft report, which was originally scheduled to take place on November 7 under the direction of BJP member Vinod Kumar Sonkar.

The claims that TMC MP Mahua Moitra accepted payments to interrogate billionaire Gautam Adani in the Lok Sabha are the subject of an investigation.

As per the Lok Sabha agenda, Examining the complaint filed on October 15, 2023, by Nishikant Dubey, MP, against Mahua Moitra, MP, about the latter’s alleged direct involvement in cash for questioning in Parliament regarding the Committee on Ethics’ assessment and investigation of Moitra’s alleged unethical conduct—consideration and adoption of draft report.

Mahua Moitra tweeted, “No draft report circulated as is norm but will be “adopted “ on Nov 9. Mtng postponed to clash with INC MP’s nomination date so he can’t come. BJP calling allies to ensure attendance to adopt via majority. Chartered flight to fly in MP state prez. How scared Adani & Modi are!”

In response to the cash-for-query charges against Mahua Moitra, she appeared before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on November 2. However, she left the meeting, claiming that she was asked “filthy…personal questions.”

Vinod Kumar Sonkar said that Moitra refused to cooperate and spoke in an unparliamentary manner. Kumar stad that Danish Ali and Girdhari Yadav, two opposition MPs, tried to accuse the committee before leaving. The committee will choose what has to be done next, he added.

The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, chaired by BJP’s Vinod Kumar Sonkar, comprises fifteen members including BJP members Vishnu Datt Sharma, Sumedhanand Saraswati, Aparajita Sarangi, Rajdeep Roy, Sunita Duggal, Subhash Bhamre, Congress members Ve Vaithilingam, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Preneet Kaur, YSRCP members Balashowry Vallabbhaneni, Hemant Godse, JD-U members Giridhari Yadav, CPI-M members PR Natarajan, and BSP members Kunwar Danish Ali.
