UNITED STATES: A new Twitter chief executive has been appointed by Elon Musk, who will in six weeks commence leading the social media platforms. Musk says, “I’m excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in 6 weeks!” on Twitter.
Elon Musk would be the executive chair and the chief technology officer, catering to “overseeing product, software, and sysops [systems operations]”.
According to people with an understanding of the situation, Elon Musk is under pressure from Twitter bankers and investors to select new management as rapidly as possible.
The decision comes at an occasion when investors in Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer that Elon Musk also regulates, are placing increasing pressure on him to focus once again on that business, as its shares have fallen by 30% over the past year. The news of the Twitter CEO caused Tesla’s stock to increase by approximately two percent.
Linda Yaccarino, a mass media and entertainment group, was NBCU’s head of advertising in a conversation with Musk that put a spotlight on her being considered for the job.
Yaccarino, who worked 15 years at Turner Entertainment prior to joining NBCU in 2011, has been credited with transitioning the network’s ad sales organisation into the age of digital media.
She appeared last year at Radio City Music Hall to inform advertisers that their company’s messages were not a last-minute decision when broadcast television audiences switched to streaming.
Elon Musk had stated in December that he would resign as Twitter’s chief executive soon after he appoints someone “foolish enough to take the job.” He had to be lenient with respect to moderation of the content and by dwindling headcount by approximately 90% amid Twitter’s shakeup under his tutelage.
