INDIA: On Tuesday, June 13, at around 1:30 pm, earthquake vibrations were detected in Delhi-NCR and other regions of north India, including Chandigarh and Mohali.
The earthquake, which occurred around 1:30 p.m., only lasted for a few seconds. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 rocked Doda in Jammu and Kashmir, triggering powerful tremors across north India.
“Earthquake of Magnitude:5.4, Occurred on 13-06-2023, 13:33:42 IST, Lat: 33.15 & Long: 75.82, Depth: 6 Km, Location: Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, India,” NCS tweeted.
The earthquake was at a depth of 60 kilometres (37.28 miles), and the epicentre of the tremor was 99 kilometres north of Pathankot in northern India, stated the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
“I felt the shocks of the earthquake as I exited the subway. I was a little afraid and then rushed out,” said a resident of Delhi after feeling tremors.
Surprisingly, the quake was so powerful that it reached as far as Lahore, Islamabad, and neighbouring regions in Pakistan, as per initial reports.
Shakar Garh, Chichawatni, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Hafizabad, and Zafarwal in Punjab also experienced earthquakes. Abbottabad, Swabi, and Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were all affected by the earthquake.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department reports that the earthquake, which had a depth of 10 km, was felt at 1:04 pm local time.
However, no immediate damage or casualties were reported anywhere.
In response to the incident, some users of Twitter users shared the video of the earthquake. The video shed light on the recent occurrence of numerous similar incidents in the nation’s capital.
Last month, Delhi witnessed a mild tremor when a 5.2-magnitude quake struck Afghanistan.
