Dustin Poirier Defeats Conor McGregor By TKO At UFC 264

After the fight UFC president, Dana White said that McGregor is going to have surgery tomorrow and when he is fully recovered Dustin and McGregor will fight for a fourth time to settle the scores.

UNITED STATES: Dustin Poirier defeats Conor McGregor via doctor stoppage due to a broken ankle at UFC 264. The crowd in T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada was waiting for the main event fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor to be the fight of the night but to their disappointment, the fight ended after the very first round because Conor McGregor broke his ankle during the fight.

Sean O’Malley Vs Kris Moutinho.

The UFC 264 Main Card started with a Bantamweight fight between Sean O’Malley and Kris Moutinho. Kris Moutinho took this fight on an 11-day notice after O’Malley’s scheduled opponent Louis Smolka withdraw himself weeks before the fight. Sean O’Malley won by TKO at 4mins and 33 seconds of round 3. But Kris Moutinho showed a great heart even after he got some serious beating from O’Malley. Kris lost the match but he surely won the hearts of many of his fans and UFC fighters. Moutinho failed to capture his first UFC win but he earned everyone’s respect.

Stephen Thompson Vs Gilbert Burns

This co-main event between the no.2 ranked welterweight Burns and no.4 ranked welterweight Thompson was a 3 round fight. Thompson was riding on a two-fight winning streak whereas Burns lost his last fight against the current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. The fight started with Burns taking Thompson on the ground and Burns shot in on a low single and took down Thompson, not giving him a chance to get up from the ground position. Burns was the aggressor in the first round and he won the first round quite comfortably. In the remaining rounds, Thompson showed his striking abilities as he started the final round with some good shots and a great kick to the head to wobble Burns, but Burns again was good with the takedowns and he scored a takedown again. Thompson couldn’t counter the takedowns of Burns and Burns won the fight by unanimous decision, (29-28 scored by all three judges).

Conor McGregor Vs Dustin Poirier

The Main event the most anticipated fight of UFC 264 because the winner of this fight was about to get a title shot against the current lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. In the two previous fights between Dustin and Conor, they each won a fight as Conor won the first fight whereas Dustin won the second fight. The third fight was expected to be a blockbuster fight as both of them were trash-talking with each other during the press conference. The fight started with McGregor landing some good leg kicks and McGregor tried to close the distance between him and Dustin. They both straightaway started throwing punches and kicks at each other. But when it was looking like a good fight McGregor broke his ankle and the referee Herb Dean stopped the fight after the first round and Dustin Poirier was declared the winner by TKO via doctor stoppage. After the fight, Dustin said that he believed that his check of one of McGregor’s kicks is what broke his leg. But McGregor was furious and he said that, “There was no check!”. After the fight UFC president, Dana White said that McGregor is going to have surgery tomorrow and when he is fully recovered Dustin and McGregor will fight for a fourth time to settle the scores.
