UNITED STATES: Mike Pence, United States former vice president, has testified in front of the grand jury that has been delving into ex-President Donald Trump’s endeavours to alter the natural course of the election results of the 2020 presidential race.

This has, by far, been the most highlighted event concerning this case in the US Department of Justice’s investigation. Hours after the federal court, in a sealed order, disregarded a request by Trump’s lawyers to stop Pence’s show, the testimony finally occurred.

Trump’s lawyers had earlier objected to Pence’s testimony citing the US Constitution’s “speech or debate” clause, which provided immunity to members of Congress from being interrogated about matters concerning legislative acts that are official.

Certain conversations are brought to light and in the first-person account that had taken place in the weeks before the insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. This tete-a-tete also enlightens on the important talks that Pence has been a part of prior to his 2024 presidential run against Trump.

Pence mentioned in an interview, “And I’ll be presenting the story in that context, the one I’ve been telling the American people all throughout the country and that I wrote about in my memoir.”

Trump’s lawyers, in light of that investigation on Wednesday, called the Department of Justice’s investigation “severely botched” and “politically infected”

The lawyers wrote, “DOJ should be ordered to stand down, and the intelligence community should instead conduct an appropriate investigation and provide a full report to this Committee, as well as your counterparts in the Senate.”

In the days preceding the presidential election on January 6, Pence commented substantially about Trump’s pressure campaign, requesting him to denounce the Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s victory, particularly in his book, So Help Me God.
