INDIA: The Delhi Capitals finally secured their first win of the season after a wait of three weeks and six matches, thanks to a spirited bowling performance and a flying start from David Warner.
The Capitals faced Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground, the Arun Jaitley Stadium, in front of a lively crowd. The game started an hour late due to rain, with the toss taking place at 8:15 PM IST and the match beginning at 8:30 PM IST.
Delhi Capitals Vs Kolkata Knight Riders
The Delhi Capitals were off to a terrific start, picking up three wickets in the powerplay, with Litton Das, Venkatesh Iyer, and Nitish Rana falling early. Jason Roy, the other opener, remained cautious, and the Capitals continued to peg the KKR back with spin, with Axar Patel taking two wickets in quick succession, reducing Kolkata to 64-5.
KKR found themselves staring down the barrel at 96-9 before Andre Russell rescued the innings with a late surge that took the team to 127. However, the Kolkata Knight Rider’s terrific bowling performance, led by Nitish Rana, Anukul Roy, and Varun Chakravarthy, ensured that DC did not have an easy chase.
David Warner started the Capitals’ chase with aggression, hitting ten fours in the powerplay, but could not form partnerships as wickets fell regularly at the other end.
His wicket caused a mini-collapse, with the spinners piling up pressure on the batters, but a misfield from Andre Russell allowed the Capitals to get off the hook.
The KKR spinners took wickets regularly, reducing the Capitals to 111-6 before Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav eventually helped DC stumble over the line in the last over. The win, however, had an anticlimactic end, with Kulwant Kejroliya bowling a no-ball before conceding the remaining two runs in the free hit.
After securing their first win of the season, the Delhi Capitals will fly out to Hyderabad to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday (April 24). Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders will head home to the Eden Gardens to face Chennai Super Kings on Sunday (April 23).
