QATAR: The defending champions, France, ended Morocco’s dream run in Qatar and set up a title clash with Argentina at the FIFA World Cup. France, led by Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi’s Argentina will square off in the FIFA World Cup 2022 championship game on Sunday.
France defeated Morocco 2-0 at the Al-Bayt Stadium in Qatar to clinch its second consecutive spot in the grand finals of the FIFA World Cup. Didier Deschamps was the coach of the French team.
In the fifth minute of the match, defender Theo Hernandez scored France’s quickest goal of the Qatar World Cup.
The reigning champions of France extended their lead in the second half by scoring a second goal, ending Morocco’s unbeaten streak on the biggest stage. Substitute Randal Kolo Muani as the second goal scorer.
Despite several injuries before the tournament, France has been outstanding, destroying opponents with pace and accuracy on the counterattack led by Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann. They are a strong opponent when combined with Olivier Giroud.
“Playing two World Cup finals consecutively is an amazing accomplishment. We worked hard and did a good job, and now we’re in the finals. To win this final, we will put in a lot of effort,” Hernandez remarked.
The fact that Morocco had made history by being the first African and Arab nation to go to the World Cup semifinals helped to soften their elimination.
When they return home following Saturday’s third-place playoff against Croatia, they may anticipate being lauded as heroes.
